Inspections of Nurse and Medication Aide Training Programs - 641-0437-26

Agency Description

The Bureau of Community and Health Systems (BCHS) within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) performs oversight of programs designed to protect the health, safety, and welfare of individuals receiving care and services through various licensed, permitted, and certified facilities, agencies, programs, and individuals. The Nurse and Medication Aide Section, within BCHS, oversees State permitted nurse and medication aides training programs, which are designed to prepare individuals for careers as certified nursing assistants or certified medication aides through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab practice. The Nurse and Medication Aide Section routinely inspects these training programs to ensure compliance with various State and federal requirements. As of June 16, 2026 there were 231 active nurse aide training programs and 10 active medication aide training programs permitted in the State of Michigan.

Audit Objective

  • To assess the sufficiency of LARA’s efforts to conduct inspections of nurse and medication aide training programs.
