Description of Agency

The Aging and Adult Services Agency (AASA) is Michigan’s designated State unit on aging as mandated by the federal Older Americans Act. AASA is responsible for addressing older adult issues; facilitating and funding programs and services for older adults; and supervising, monitoring, assessing, and evaluating the services provided to older adults by Michigan’s 16 local area agencies on aging (local agencies). AASA provides direct guidance to the local agencies and monitors the local agencies’ oversight activities related to subcontracted service providers. For fiscal year 2020, AASA expended $124.8 million, of which $94.4 million (76%) was funding for local agencies.
