Robert T. Ortwein was appointed State Relations Officer for the Office of the Auditor General
(OAG) in 1999. He works directly with the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of
government, promoting and maintaining open lines of communication. He manages the State
Relations program for the OAG and interacts on a daily basis with the people and entities
served by the OAG.
Prior to joining the OAG, Mr. Ortwein was the Vice President for External Affairs and Secretary to the Board of Trustees at Ferris State University. Mr. Ortwein has had extensive experience in the field of health care management and has been an independent consultant for various hospitals in developing both outpatient and inpatient substance abuse units.
Mr. Ortwein has been very active in civic affairs, serving four years as a City of DeWitt elected councilman and recently serving on the Board of Directors of the National Council on Alcoholism in the Lansing Regional Area and on the Board of Directors of the American Lung Association's Michigan Chapter. He is an avid golfer and hockey fan. Mr. Ortwein has traveled extensively in Europe and has secured several international agreements with Germany and Russia. Mr. Ortwein is currently a member of the Friends of the Capitol, Inc.
Mr. Ortwein possesses both a bachelor's degree in social science and a master's degree in education from Michigan State University. He is a licensed professional counselor and a certified social worker.
