Description of Agency
Windows Active Directory is the underlying technology within the Microsoft Windows operating system that provides for the centralized management of users and their security through an integrated single sign-on system for security, access, and identity management. The Department of Technology, Management, and Budget’s (DTMB’s) Design and Delivery and Technical Services Divisions are responsible for administering and securing the majority of the State’s executive branch Active Directory environments. As of January 2016, the State maintained 2617 Windows servers for the executive branch.
- To assess the sufficiency of the State’s governance over its Active Directory environments.
- To assess the effectiveness of the State’s efforts to implement security and access controls over its Active Directory environments.
- To evaluate the effectiveness of the State’s controls to add, modify, and delete Active Directory accounts.
